Milan, in via Volturno new version of the mural dedicated to Berlusconi. And this time it blows the horns, like at the EU 2022 summit

The “Self made man” is back and this time he also plays the horns, as in famous group photo of participants in the summit of European Union foreign ministers in Caceres in 2002, which then went down in history: a new version of the work by street artist aleXsandro Palombo dedicated to Silvio Berlusconi appeared in via Volturno 34, located right in thei in front of the building where the founder of Forza Italia grew up with his mother Rosahis father Luigi, his sister Marie Antoinette and his brother Paolo.

The former premier is still portrayed in a blue suit and the ever-present polka-dot tie immediately after naming the street for himself, with a bucket of white paint and brush in hand, surmounted by a plaque that reads “Via Silvio Berlusconi 1936-2023”. This time, however, he makes a significant gesture, halfway between ironic and polemical, almost as if to mock those who had canceled it in recent days. And who knows if it will cause discussions like in 2002: at the time the then head of government and interim head of the Farnesina had cheated “to amuse”, as he later declared, a group of scouts who were witnessing a usually serious moment (and evidently according to him too serious) like the one in the souvenir photo of the event.

Palombo himself presented the new work on his social channels: “Silvio Berlusconi too a victim of cancel culture? – We read in the post entrusted to Instagram – They deleted him at the speed of light, but with the same speed that has always distinguished him he came back more determined than before to deliver us a new message ”. The inhabitants of the Isola district were faced with this surprise this morning: the mural, which in just two days had become an attraction in the area – a destination for Milanese and tourists looking for an original selfie – had first been vandalized and then removed . On the bucket bearing the title of the work – “Self made man” in fact – the vandals had raged, adding the words “With the help of the ‘Ndrangheta”. While on the nameplate of the street, under the name of Berlusconi, the words “Ex Pdc – Businessman and old p….” had been inserted by unknown persons.

The mural was then covered with gray paint, “but the shadow of the portrait of the Knight is still visible on the wall, which resisted the removal of the urban decor workers” as the artist wrote in a note. Palazzo Marino later clarified, however, that “the urban decor workers” actually had nothing to do with the incident: no employee of the Municipality or of Amsa had canceled the work. Now on social media there are those who rejoice: “Great. You can erase it from a wall, but not from history.”
