Visiting Rome, the president of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola he reiterated how Italy has “a central role in Europe”. The occasion was the inauguration of the interactive space “Esperienza Europa”, dedicated to the memory of David Sassoli. Before the appointment, Metsola had a series of talks of an institutional nature. This morning, in his conversation with the Speaker of the Chamber Lorenzo Fontana, Metsola discussed specific issues such as cybersecurity, which is highly topical for our country after the cyberattacks of recent weeks.
Commissioner Gentiloni also spoke out on the war in Ukraine, speaking of the European perspective as a “beacon that guides the authorities and the people of Ukraine”, because “there is a great desire for Europe in the world, linked to the our values”. Values which, as Gentiloni recalled, were inherent in David Sassoli’s political activity. While Minister Tajani said: “If we help Ukraine we do it because we want there to be no surrender but that there can be a negotiation. The goal is not the war that must continue, but to allow the two contenders to discuss equal arms and since Ukraine is also a future part of the EU, I think it is right to help that people”.
