Melons: external competition? I would focus on other priorities. Nordio: perfect harmony with the premier

“On the subject of external assistance, I understand very well both the assessments made by Minister Nordio, always very precise, and the criticisms that may come, however I would concentrate on other priorities”. This was stated by the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the end of the visit to the Archaeological Park of Pompeii.

Nordio: perfect harmony with Meloni

Nordio’s stance arrived shortly: «We are and have always been in perfect harmony with the premier. The problem of external cooperation is essentially technical and aims, if anything, at strengthening the fight against organized crime. But its revision is not part of the government programme”. Justice Minister Carlo Nordio says so underlining that “the imaginative and sometimes malignant reconstructions of our hypothetical disagreements are vain attempts to undermine our resolve to complete the reforms on justice, according to the mandate received from the voters, and on which we will not waver and we will not hesitate”.

Present in via d’Amelio

“I’ve never missed the commemorations in via D’Amelio and I won’t miss this year either.” Thus the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni leaving the archaeological site of Pompeii. In recent days, the hypothesis had circulated that Meloni might not participate in the memory, precisely to avoid tensions with the magistrates on the reform of the external competition in the mafia association. “Many know why I started doing politics, I remember it very well”, she added at the end of the visit she together with the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Frecciarossa Rome-Pompeii connection.

The tensions in the majority

In recent days, Nordio had made it clear that he did not intend to give up on the external competition in mafia association, also putting on the plate the law of separation of careers: «The very word external competition is an oxymoron. Because either you are inside or you are outside and concurrence from the Latin means being inside. It does not mean not punishing some activities committed outside the criminal association, without contributing to the organisation’s objectives, but this must be done with a certain ad hoc rule. Currently we have not scheduled the proposal for the separation of careers. We will probably bring it to the next majority meeting, which will be before the summer holidays,” said the minister. It will be necessary to see how the majority will move, divided between the more guaranteeing wing made up of Forza Italia and the Lega, and the one closest to the judiciary (Fdi, in whose ranks, moreover, Nordio was elected).

Ronzulli (FI): support for Nordio, also on external competition

“Our support for Minister Nordio is unreserved, without ifs and buts. Moreover, external complicity is a crime that exists only in Italy and that has no reason to exist. Either you are a mafiosi or you are not, or you compete, and therefore you are a mafiosi, or you are not. It matters little that the contribution comes from outside. There is a reform that must go ahead in the interests of citizens, for a fair trial in both civil and criminal matters. We do not want a clash with the judiciary but the reform intervention must be done ». Thus the president of the senators of Forza Italia Licia Ronzulli on Omnibus on La7.
