For about ten years, Belgian directors Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne they planned to write a screenplay about young migrants and their mothers. “We were about to do it – explains Jean-Pierre, the larger of the two, between courses in a restaurant in the capital – explains to the sheet – but then we started making other films. The idea has always remained very strong and we felt the need to pick up on that story after reading a whole series of articles on various cases of very young immigrants who arrived in Europe without their families. It is the first time that a minor has gone to his family by choice, so far and alone, hoping to find a job, a better life. Many, however, end up in the hands of organized crime, or, in any case, of unscrupulous people, disappearing for various reasons: drugs, sex, organ trafficking and much more ”. “We wondered – adds Luc – how it was possible for these people to become invisible. We were shocked and all this gave us the desire to take up the film that was created precisely to meet this need.“.
