At 11.30 Giorgia Meloni is expected in the Senate for communications in view of the European Council which will take place on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 March.
One of the main topics on the European agenda will be that of migrants. The Italian government hopes that a solution can be found for effective community management of the migration issue, especially after the letter sent by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to the leaders of the 27 in view of the meeting on Thursday and Friday.
However, there is also the new Stability Pact in the thoughts of the Prime Minister. In Palazzo Chigi’s plans, this should guarantee greater flexibility on European funds. Yesterday, in a telephone conversation, Meloni tried to find support on the subject from the German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
With Scholz, the Prime Minister also addressed the immigration issue (before the call, Meloni took stock with Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi), “The priority on the part of the European Council to give a further signal of support to the Ukraine at 360 degrees; a rapid implementation of the decisions of the European Council in February for a finally European management of migratory flows; European solutions for the competitiveness of the continent’s economies, through the full use of the appropriate EU instruments”, explained a press release from Palazzo Chigi.
