I confess the disappointment, however not mine alone. I am among those who had deluded themselves that they could take seriously some programmatic declarations of the new Minister of Justice, in line, moreover, with previous positions taken by Nordio himself, always tendentially liberal. These can be summarized as follows: the number of crimes must be reduced, also because penal inflation is the cause of procedural delays; it is necessary to dispel the prejudice that security and good administration depend on criminal laws; the space of the prison sentence must be reduced; the current prison system is criminogenic.
