Meloni on children and birth rates in Italy: "Promoting parenting"

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni launches a precise message, in defense of parenthood, with a reflection on children who do not prevent dreams from coming true. «Children, children, are life and hope, like seeds to be planted to make a forest grow. For decades the dominant culture has told us exactly the opposite. Now the time has come to break this narrative and reverse the trend, promoting the beauty of parenthood and building an imaginary for life,” said President el Consiglio.

«Winning the demographic winter, Pope Francis reminded us, means fighting something that goes against our families, against our homeland, and also against our future. This is our challenge. An ambitious challenge, but one that we are not afraid to face. The government is there,” added the premier.

«We want to give back to the Italians a nation in which being a father is no longer considered out of fashion and being a mother is not seen only as a private choice, but as a socially recognized value. A nation in which having a child means acknowledging that we have done something beautiful, greater than ourselves, which takes nothing away from us, which does not deprive us of anything and which does not prevent us from realizing our dreams. And which contributes to accumulating those years of future, that demographic GDP, which is essential to ensure that the flow of generations does not stop».

The single check, the other measures announced the unknown resources
Among the announced proposals, in addition to the single allowance for children up to the age of 21, there was talk of a child income and a youth allowance, included in the bill which a few months ago was deposited in the Chamber by Tommaso Foti, group leader in Deputies for Brothers of Italy (Fdi). The childcare income would consist of a monthly subsidy of 400 euros which would be paid up to the child’s sixth birthday. The subsidy could be increased in particular cases, for example disabilities or single-parent families.

The news on the Unico 2023 allowance are these: the 50% increase in the flat-rate increase, for families with at least 4 children, which rises to 150 euros per month per family; the 50% increase in the allowance for large families, with three or more dependent children, limited to children aged between one and three years for which the amount due for each child increases by 50%, for ISEE levels up to 40,000 euros; a 50% increase in the allowance, to be applied to the amounts due according to the reference ISEE brackets, for families with children under the age of 1. The increases recognized during 2022 for adult disabled children are confirmed and become stable.
