Meloni meets the President of the EU Council Charles Michel: today the Council of Ministers

ROME. “I got to be prime minister but I never managed to be mayor…”, is the self-deprecating joke that Giorgia Meloni he concedes himself speaking to the vast audience of mayors gathered at the Nuvola dell’Eur da Italian post for the launch of the «Polis-House of digital services» project. Welcomed by the applause of the audience – made up largely of a very large representation, over 7,000, of Italian mayors of municipalities with fewer than 15,000 inhabitants – the prime minister took part in the event where Poste Italiane presented the project 1.2 billion and states: “Mayors are the institution closest to citizens”.

Mayors need not be afraid
On the front of the modification of the abuse of office, Meloni takes the opportunity to tell the Italian mayors to reiterate «the government’s commitment to do everything we can to make the mayors’ task easier, from simplification to digitization to abuse of office”. “No mayor who wants to give answers to his citizens must be slowed down or be afraid to give those answers to citizens,” confirms the Prime Minister.

A more demanding challenge for those who are mayors of a municipality with fewer than 15,000 inhabitants, because those tools and resources are often even less”.

Italy is one, united and with the same rights for all
«We want to unite Italy. One Italy. Without citizens, areas, or Serie A and Serie B services. All with the same services and the same rights» added the Prime Minister.

Effective responses in the medium term
“I am proud to be at this initiative on the hundredth day in which I have the honor of leading the government of this nation” said Meloni, underlining the importance “of thinking about time”: “Taking the time to make strategic choices, not being chased by presentism, by performance anxiety, by the need to be talked about every day. I have the great goal of giving Italy a government that will last five years, who knows that the medium term is the one to give the most effective answers”.

We have taught so much, we can still be an example
“We can still be a model, this nation can still be an example for others to follow, a model that others copy. We have taught a lot but we can still teach a lot. This is a project that teaches.”

The Post Office project: the one-stop shop in proximity is underway
Poste Italiane focuses on the post office network to “promote the economic, social and territorial cohesion of small urban centers and inland areas” by creating a “proximity one-stop shop», to access public administration services, and the «largest coworking network in the country», with 250 «spaces for Italy». Project financed for 800 million from the complementary plan to Pnrr and about 400 million from the company.

At 13.30, the premier will receive the president of the European Council at Palazzo Chigi, Charles Michel. Statements are expected at the end of the meeting. At 18.30 will meet the cabinet.
