Giuseppe Conte: “The Meloni agenda lacks coherence and courage”

The intervention of Joseph Conteformer Prime Minister, now leading the main opposition force, the 5 Star Movement, one hundred days after the beginning of Giorgia Meloni’s government:

“Consistency and courage. These are the two missing words on Meloni’s agenda just 100 days after taking office. Governing is certainly not easy, but if I think back to the beginning of my first experience at Palazzo Chigi, I am reminded of the great will to change things, remove encrustations, respect the commitments made with citizens: these were the days of the Citizenship Income, of the Spazzacorrotti, of the Dignity Decree to counter the precariousness, of the head-on confrontation in Europe to say enough to austerity. instead the traditional honeymoon of the first few days ended even before it started: the promises made in the electoral campaign by Giorgia Meloni melted away like snow in the sun.The increase in pensions turned into a cut in the revaluations of pension allowances for the middle class; caresses to the construction sector in a cut to the Superbonus; the naval blockade in a record number of landings compared to previous years; the cut in excise duties on petrol in a cut in aid to citizens on the cost of living; the no to the drills a convinced yes within a week. From the slogan ‘with us the free ride is over for Europe’ we passed, as if nothing had happened, to Meloni’s applause by the European hawks of austerity, those same hawks that you attacked up to a moment before forming the government . In these first 100 days few smile: the managers of the Serie A clubs who can spread their debts; evaders, corrupted and corrupting people who will be able to go around with 5,000 euros in cash; the white-collar workers who have succumbed to the underworld, between releases and prison benefits. On the other hand, Italy does not smile in Europe, which does not touch the ball in Brussels on war and energy and plays the part of the supporting actor, of the yes man who does not change the sign of history, on peace negotiations and on massive interventions for the economic emergency a favor of families and businesses.
