The secretary of the Democratic Party asks the premier to come out of silence on mortgages, inflation and the minimum wage

Elly Schlein returns to the attack and asks for quick and concrete answers from the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni. According to the secretary of the Democratic Party, the premier has now closed in an inadmissible silence on many priority aspects for the country that need clarity: “How long will Meloni’s silence last?”, began Elly Schlein, who then stated that, for weeks, the prime minister “has been held hostage by the investigations, scandals and shameful rantings of her own majority”. The reference is to the cases involving the companies of the Minister of Tourism Daniela Santanchè, the investigation by the Undersecretary of Justice Andrea Delmastro and the words of the President of the Senate Ignazio La Russa on the complaint of sexual violence against his son.

Already in recent days, the secretary of the Democratic Party had criticized the choice of the Prime Minister to rely on “sources” of Palazzo Chigi for the ongoing clash between the government and the magistrates. Today Elly Schlein increased the dose again by complaining about this long silence on fundamental issues for the community: “We haven’t heard a single word from Meloni about the country’s economic and social emergencies”. In particular, Schlein highlighted: “Not a word has arrived on the unitary proposal of the oppositions on the minimum wage”. According to the secretary, this silence “does not punish the opposition, but mortifies three million poor workers. Not a word and not a single fact has come about expensive mortgages, the housing emergency that the government has exacerbated by cutting the rent fund. Not a word – she specified again – came about safety at work, despite the tragic number of victims. Not a single proposal on how to counter the galloping inflation that is impoverishing the country”. So there is no more time to lose for the Pd exponent. Hence the final provocation towards Prime Minister Meloni: “What else has to happen for it to finally strike?”
