Meloni freezes Santanchè: “I believe you, happy that you will come to the Chamber to report”. The minister: “Proud to do so if the request is formalized”

Now also the premier Giorgia Meloni invites – to put it mildly – the Minister of Tourism Daniela Santanche to report to the House. “I think there is no problem,” he says. “It is a legitimate request from parliament. I am happy that Minister Santanchè has given her availability, I have seen her calm in these hours as I am calm”. To the requests of the opposition, therefore, now there is also the pressure of the prime minister, as well as party leader which Santanchè belongs to: Fratelli d’Italia A few moments later, the person directly concerned lets it be known that “if the request is formalized” she will be “proud and proud to do so”, she declares as she arrives in Ischia for an event of the group of European Conservatories. And on the investigation by the Milan prosecutor’s office, Santanchè adds: “To date I have never received a guarantee notice, so I don’t understand how one can speak of indictment”.

Meloni also intervenes on the Mes, another issue that is creating more than one problem for the majority. The opposition is pushing for ratification, while the centre-right – against – aims to move forward the decision despite the impatience of Brussels. “I think it is a mistake to bring it to the Chamber now, even for those who are in favor of ratification,” Meloni says. The reason: “The parliament had voted a motion in which it asked the government not to ratify the Mes, all the more so pending the decisions concerning the overall framework of governance which means stability law, banking union and guarantee of deposits”.

Going back to Santanchè, the prime minister hadn’t gone too far until today. In the last few hours, however, the pressure on Santanchè had become increasingly insistent. So much so as to push the majority parties themselves – Lega and Forza Italia in primis – to join, albeit in a softer way, the oppositions in the request for public explanations. Explanations that have not yet arrived, however. Not even yesterday when, on the sidelines of an event-interview in Capri, the minister limited herself to rejecting requests for resignation to the sender: “It doesn’t exist. They are not here. And I’m not in anyone’s head from the majority, ”she said when asked by Republic.

Since the demonstration on health organized in Rome by the CGIL, the opposition has continued to criticize the attitude of the minister. Elly Schlein explicitly asks for a step back: “While the government is moving forward on a work decree that increases precariousness, there is a minister who did not pay suppliers and laboratories while collecting gold payments. The Democratic Party asks for clarity, asks Meloni to leave the silence and the minister to resign”. For Conte, Santanchè’s “is an unacceptable attitude”. And again: “Saying that I will speak is not enough. There is a legal and a moral aspect”. On the resignation, the 5-star leader is less clear-cut: “Clarify and we will evaluate”.
