Meloni: “Being patriots is no longer an infamy, it’s our victory”. Calenda: “But ethnicities have nothing to do with it”

On the day of the Republic Day, Giorgia Meloni claims that she has cleared the concept of homeland and nation through customs. He does so in a speech at the conference organized by the former president of the Senate Marcello Pera (elected from the Brothers of Italy list) and the current president Ignazio La Russa, co-founder of Meloni’s party, entitled Nation, homeland, rediscovered ideas. In a video message, in which the controversial French intellectual Ernest Renan is quoted again (he had already done so on March 17, National Unity Day), the prime minister says: “It is not an irrelevant fact that defining oneself as a patriot is no longer considered a derogatory or in any case obsolete appellation but an element shared and claimed by practically all political forces, including those who in the past considered it almost an infamy”.

Meloni believes he has a merit in this process: «It is a great victory and I am proud of the contribution that we too have made in this direction – the premier underlines -. Because my dream is to live in an Italy in which, despite the differences, everyone can define themselves and act as patriots, or rather as people who put the nation’s interest before the interest of one party or another”.
