Meloni and Scholz discuss the Corriere.it dossier

In the days in which the Ministry of Economy and Lufthansa are trying to perfect the draft of the agreement for the relaunch of Ita Airways, the privatization dossier of the tricolor carrier is addressed during the conversation between the Italian premier Giorgia Meloni and the German chancellor Olaf Scholz . The theme, sources leak following our Prime Minister, was one of those of an industrial nature discussed by the two leaders on the sidelines of the G7 in Hiroshima, Japan.

Scholz’s visit

At the moment it is not clear what the premier and chancellor said to each other. But the insiders point out that the first time that the two heads of government explicitly speak of a negotiation that aims, initially, to have Lufthansa enter Ita Airways with a 40% stake to try to relaunch the airline tricolor. And this dossier could also be among those concluded on the occasion of Scholz’s shortly-expected visit to Rome after Meloni’s in Berlin in February.

The negotiations

Meanwhile, on the Rome-Frankfurt axis, the delegations from the Treasury and Lufthansa continue to discuss the elements of the agreement. The exclusive negotiation period that was supposed to expire on April 24th was then moved to May 12th but by that day the parties had not reached an agreement. So we work hard. Government sources explain al Courier that now it’s just a question of the legal experts who are working on a draft that should include different scenarios with the aim of protecting both the interests of Lufthansa and those of the Ministry of Economy.
