Water, waste, electricity and gas bills suspended for the citizens of Emilia-Romagna. This is foreseen by the emergency provision approved by Arera (Regulatory Authority for energy, networks and the environment) in favor of populations affected and damaged by exceptional meteorological events of the last days. The resolution – reads the note from the authority – concerns all utilities in the Municipalities compromised by the calamitous events from May 1st, with the worsening of the last few days.

Which bills are suspended

The resolution will be applied from the date of issue by the competent authorities of the provisions for the identification of the Municipalities involved. Suspended billings include all those issued or by Andto expire from May 1, 2023, including any invoices relating to the fees provided by the vendors or managers of the Integrated Water Service for connection, activation, deactivation, transfer or takeover. Furthermore, to guarantee the use of essential services in the affected areas, the discipline of suspensions for arrears will not apply, even in the case of arrears that occurred prior to the same date of 1 May 2023.

Possible installment payments

The suspension of bill payments is a first emergency measure, in view of any extraordinary measures that will be adopted by the government to support the populations affected by floods and flooding. New interventions by the Authority – the note clarifies – may also envisage the introduction of specific rules on installment payments of payments, concessions also of a tariff nature and any derogations from compliance with the obligations set out in the regulation in force in favor of the operators affected by the events in question. Finally, the vendors and managers who provide the public services mentioned above will be able to offer further, more favorable concessions, in line with the provisions of the Arera resolution.
