“Access to water must be an instrument of peace and cooperation, a right to be guaranteed to all”. It is a message that restores the value of a fundamental but neglected resource, the one that the Head of State sends on the occasion of the conference “Water, gold of all time”, organized in Genoa by the National Federation of Cavalieri del Lavoro. Sergio Mattarella points out that “the availability of water cannot be taken for granted, as if it were unlimited, as if its quality did not deserve attention and care, as if its use was safe from ethical, civil, economic and political evaluations”. And he recalls that “the challenge of using water correctly, without waste or abuse, involves public institutions such as civil society, businesses and individual citizens”.

Mattarella, who is in Paraguay today during his official trip to South America, highlights in his message how “the water dimension characterizes the sea, rivers, lakes, midwives of human history and its relationships between peoples and invaluable sources of beauty, and constitutes an extraordinary potential for growth and development”. However, it is a question of “orienting the relationship with water towards sustainability”: “We can – writes the President of the Republic – manage to create further value while respecting natural resources and their balance, if we learn to use new technologies to give to transport and the economy of the sea that green character which is necessary”.

In the meantime, Mattarella’s visit to Paraguay includes a meeting with the staff of the Embassy and a qualified representation of the local Italian community. “You – said the Head of State to the Italian community of Asuncion – are witnesses and vanguards of the friendship between Paraguay and Italy and you have a very important task. The fact that you maintain the bond of affection with the Republic is an element Thank you very much. Your presence is an element of stability and strengthening for the friendship between Paraguay and Italy”. To welcome Mattarella to the “El Cabildo” Cultural Center, where he arrived together with his daughter Laura, also some dancers who, with traditional costumes, performed the folkloric dance of the bottle (keeping a row of bottles balanced on their heads). Previously, he had talks with the president of the Senate and the president of the Chamber of Deputies of Paraguay.
