«The social cohesion of the country is measured by the ability to give a future to the younger generations, creating a climate of trust. The Italian demographic structure shows an imbalance which must draw attention». This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in the message sent to the president of the Foundation for the birth rate and the Forum of family associations, Gianluigi De Palo.

«The institutions – underlines the Head of State – have the responsibility to implement active policies that allow young couples to realize their life project, overcoming the difficulties of a material nature and access to services that make parenthood difficult. It is a punctual prescription of the Constitution which, in art. 31, calls on the Republic to facilitate “with economic measures and other provisions the formation of the family and the fulfillment of related tasks, with particular regard to large families”. By protecting “motherhood, infancy and youth, by promoting the institutions necessary for this purpose”.

“The Italian demographic structure shows an imbalance that must draw attention”, adds the Head of State, who defines this aspect as a “crucial issue for our country”. The birth of a child, adds Mattarella, “is a sign of hope and continuity of the community”.
