Low wages and labor shortages, the bad masters of tourism

The Italian economy is coping positively with a very complicated economic situation. Some sectors, especially in services, such as tourism for example, are doing very well. According to Istat, the data for the first months of 2023 show a boom in the sector (+45.5 percent in presences compared to 2022), with an increase above all in the presence of foreign tourists (+70.5 percent, while domestic ones grow by 28.8 percent) which should lead to a full recovery after the Covid crisis and surpassing pre-pandemic levels. There are however two problems: workers have too low wages and companies suffer from a labor shortage.
