Pernigotti, an Italian company from Novi Ligure (Alessandria) specialized in the production of chocolate sweets, ordered the withdrawal from the trade of the famous gianduiotti and cremini due to the possible presence of foreign bodies. This was announced by the Ministry of Health itself, as a precaution.

The lots

It appears that this is a contamination from plodia in the larval stage, more commonly known as the “flour butterfly”, a tiny and harmless insect for humans. The withdrawal affected two products specifically. The packs of 150 grams dei Gianduiotto – Chocolate pralines with gianduja hazelnuts for the following lots (with expiry dates): L4D April 10, 2024, L4D April 13, 2024, L4D April 19, 2024. The second Cremino – Milk chocolate and gianduia hazelnut pralines with hazelnut filling, to lots (and deadlines) L4D April 13, 2024, L4D April 14, 2024 and L4D April 17, 2024.

Products at risk

The presence of these foreign bodies does not indicate a health hazard, because they are not considered parasites for humans and do not produce dangerous substances. Their development is mainly linked to foods of vegetable origin such as pasta, rice, flour, grains, spices, dried fruit, cereals, legumes, biscuits, but also food for animals. To recall in particular this type of ounwanted spits are mostly boxes and packs of pasta or flour left in the pantry for a long time. The ministry also offers an invitation to customers so that they do not prepare to consume the product and bring the packages back to the point of purchase.
