Italy will send a new air defense system to Kyiv. Ma Tajani: “No to new decrees”

Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced the imminent situation in an interview with Repubblica sending of the Samp/T air defense system in support of Ukraine, as part of a joint operation with France: a device which has been under discussion for at least a month, and which represents one of the latest generation of anti-missile devices. A possible turning point in the defense of Kyiv, which would follow the sixth military aid decree passed by Parliament in recent weeks: a new one, at the moment, “is not in preparation”Tajani says. Assuring that “in any case, Forza Italia would vote for him”.

In addition to the strictly military data, the political data counts a lot. Especially after the latest outing of the president of Forza Italia – of which Tajani is coordinator -, Silvio Berlusconi. His very critical words towards President Zelensky, which made many doubt the Azzurri’s effective support for the Ukrainian cause. The foreign minister lowers his tone: “The facts matter”, he says, recalling how the Cav. has always “voted the resolutions against Russian aggression in the European Parliament, starting with the very harsh one of March 1, 2022”.

The doubts raised by Berlusconi’s statements did not stop at national borders: even the EPP, of which Forza Italia is one of the most authoritative exponents, felt compelled to distance itself from the Cav.’s statements, complete with tweets appeared yesterday on the social pages of the European party. Also yesterday, the international newspaper Politico also revealed that “politicians from nine different countries would boycott the next conservative meeting in Naples if Berlusconi attended”. Asked about the issue, once again Tajani underlined the past decisions of del Cav., “the man who led Russia and the United States to shake hands with Pratica di Mare”. Reiterating once again that “Berlusconi wants peace”.

The first instance sentence of the so-called “Ruby-ter” is also awaited today, a trial in which Berlusconi is accused of corruption in judicial acts: according to the charge, the FI leader would have paid some witnesses in previous trials, the ” Ruby” and the “Ruby-bis”, because they told the false. On February 13, the government had decided to revoke the civil action decided by the then prime minister, Paolo Gentiloni. In the next few hours, yet another judicial page of an investigation that has been going on for more than ten years will be written.
