Interceptions, Nordio: “We will not touch mafia satellite crimes. Parliament is not supine to prosecutors”

“I never intended to touch the wiretaps concerning terrorism and the mafia and those crimes that are satellites of these pernicious phenomena”. The Minister of Justice said this while illustrating his report on the state of justice in the Chamber Charles Nordio. “If we do not intervene on the abuses of wiretapping we will fall into a halved democracy,” she added.

“It is normal that there are colleagues who, having always acted as anti-mafia prosecutors, have an extremely strict view of these problems. But Italy is not made up of prosecutors and this Parliament must not be supine and compliant with the prosecutors’ positions” , continued Nordio referring to the controversy over wiretapping. A passage welcomed by a long applause from the majority.

“When we talk about justice we must also talk about judicial errors”. The minister cited the case of the former commander of the ROS, General Mori, “whose career was ruined without anyone having compensated for the damage”. Words greeted by buzz from the opposition benches.

In his speech, Nordio also touched on the Cartabia reform, which – said the minister – “has created critical issues that the government will try to remedy with immediate surgical intervention in the shortest possible time”.
