In April, the spending of foreign tourists in Italy soars (+32%).

In April, the expenditure of foreign tourists in Italy grew by almost a third, reaching 3.8 billion and bringing the balance to 1.4 billion against 1.1 billion in the same month of 2022. This is what the «Statistics on international tourism in Italy» by Bank of Italy which show how Italians spent 2.8 billion (+32%) on holidays across the border in the same month. Instead, in the quarter ending in April 2023, spending by foreigners in Italy increased by 30% compared to the previous year and that of Italian travelers abroad by 41%. In comparison with the pre-pandemic period, both flows stood in nominal terms at levels higher than those observed in the quarter ending in April 2019, respectively by 7.9% for those entering and 16.7% for those leaving exit.
