On the phone, at five in the afternoon, the president of the Senate answers with a tired voice and the promise of don’t add a word more compared to the note, the last one, which he dictated to the news agencies.

But then at least a minimum dissolves: «It is clear that I’m sorry, and for both guys, for this girl, for everyone, it’s a bad story. I’m just trying to be a father and I got pissed at my son because he brought home a girl that he didn’t even know well, I questioned him on everything that has happened, from now on only our lawyer will speak…».

Ignatius LaRussa he hasn’t had an easy day. It is the second office in the state and his son is accused of raping a girl. The president of Palazzo Madama had known that there was an ongoing investigation for at least four days and therefore it was no surprise for him when the news became publicalong with the first details of the investigation.

But to arouse amazement and arouse controversy rather, Dad La Russa’s first words were dictated to the agencies and essentially acquittal of his son: «After questioning him for a long time I’m sure that my son Leonardo did not complete any criminal act. I am counting on the Public Prosecutor’s Office in which, in my long professional career I have always placed my trust, to do so clarity as quickly as possibleand to dispel any doubt.

Words that trigger many political reactions, by the opposition, and who certainly may appear out of tune with the institutional figure that La Russa currently holds. The second state office continues in this way: «It certainly leaves many questions una complaint filed after forty days by the drafting attorney who, I quote verbatim from the newspaper reporting it, takes up this time “to piece together the facts”. Objectively leaves many doubts the story of a girl who, by her own admission, had consumed cocaine before meeting my son – continues La Russa -. An episode of which Leonardo was unaware. A substance that I am sure Leonardo himself never consumed in his life ».

Finally there is a domestic note which for La Russa father is also important: «Furthermore, crossed in the morningalbeit fleetingly from me and my wife, the girl looked perfectly calm. Equally certain is the strong reprimand I directed at my son for bringing into our house a girl with whom he didn’t have a consolidated relationship. I don’t feel like making any further reproach to him.”

A few hours pass and the words of the President of the Senate, a member of the Brothers of Italy, become subject of fierce criticism by the Democratic Party and the rest of the opposition. In the end Ignazio La Russa feels the need to clarify, correct the shot, perhaps even to act reverse compared to a few too many words contained in the first note.

“Sorry to be misunderstood. I mean it sincerely. I don’t accuse anyone and least of all the girl. Simply, as a father, after hearing it for a long time, I believe in my son. I underline my respect for the investigators and the desire that they shed light as quickly as possible. Leonardo has appointed one of his defenders and from now on it will be up to the latter to decide if and when to intervene».

The same lawyer he talks about, at the end of a certainly tiring day, on the phone with our newspaper. When he promises that from now on he won’t say a word about this affair. Even if it won’t be easy.
