Furlan explains why 9 euros are not enough for the minimum wage

The game of roles, that game that would therefore like her to be dissident with her party, immediately escapes. “I have nothing against a minimum wage law, but it has to be done well.” Which, however, in fact, does not even seem like enthusiastic adherence. “On the contrary”, says Annamaria Furlan at the time, “I think it is a remarkable result to have finally given centrality to a decisive and too long neglected theme, that of the dignity of work. The fact that we have managed to build a substantially compact platform of all the oppositions is another result that cannot be taken for granted. And the credit must be given to the Democratic Party and to Elly Schlein, who has fought a lot on this front since the beginning of her mandate”. So far, in short, the premises. However, it remains to be understood what Furlan, a dem senator who for almost a decade led the Cisl – the Cisl which has always been very skeptical of the need for the minimum wage, and still is – thinks of the bill drawn up by the centre-left parties. “I consider it a good starting point, but I believe it absolutely necessary to strengthen, and not just a little, the part concerning collective bargaining. Because the simple setting of an hourly figure, 9 euros, is not enough. Indeed, there is even the risk of complicating the picture, favoring the exit of many employers from national contracts”.
