From Borghi to Chinnici, all goodbyes to the Democratic Party. And Renzi’s warnings

From Borghi to Chinnici, all goodbyes to the Democratic Party. And Renzi's warnings

“Schlein’s first choices represent a genetic mutation: from a reformist party to a leftist maximalist party”. And again: «I raised the issues of security and defence, of democratic Catholics, of the need for a synthesis between cultures, but the only clear words I heard were those about yes to a surrogate uterus».

The j’accuse of the “Lettian” Borghi: with Schlein there is no room for reformists and Catholics

The j’accuse comes from the senator and member of Copasir (who will not leave) Enrico Borghi, who announces the exit from the Democratic Party and the arrival in Italia Viva first via an interview with Repubblica and then in a press conference in the Nassirya hall of Palazzo Madama alongside the parent company of Azione/Italia Viva Raffaella Paita and Matteo Renzi. Who naturally immediately wants to put his hat on the new conquest: a man very close to Enrico Letta and already responsible for the security of his secretariat, a box later canceled by Elly Schein, Borghi had repeatedly publicly complained about the choices of the new secretary. The answer? «A classic of music for us boomers: The sound of silence», he confides to off cameras, quoting the famous song by Simon & Garfunkel.

Now Renzi is at 6 in the Senate: he could make a separate group from Calenda…

With Borghi Renzi reaches 6 in the Senate, the right number to be able to form an autonomous group and thus leave Carlo Calenda and his “walking” in the Misto. But he won’t do it, he assures, even if after the dispute via social media engaged by Calenda and the consequent stop to the single party that was supposed to merge Action and Italia Viva, relations are at an all-time low. Nor has the repentance declared by Calenda in the past few hours for the personal attacks on his (former) associate of the Third Pole (“I don’t take money from dictators and assassins like him,” he said referring to Renzi’s conferences in Saudi Arabia) served to bring the two together. So much so that Renzi, in the press conference, quotes Gigi Proietti to describe his return to the field after the separation at home with Calenda: “The black knight is back, and you must not break with the black knight…”.

… but (for now) he doesn’t: “There are no political reasons to separate the groups”

«Borghi is the tenth man of the Action/Italia Viva group in the Senate. There are no political elements on anyone’s part to break up the group,” Renzi therefore assures. What is certain is that number 6 is a loaded gun towards Calenda. But the federation of centrist parties, a solution that is being worked on after the stop to the single party, is necessary for Renzi to face the European elections with some chance of exceeding the 4% threshold: this is why the agreement with Riccardo Magi and Federico Pizzarotti, respectively secretary and president of Più Europa, is almost ready. The message to Calenda is clear: the Federation goes on even without you. Not only that: if the single party implied the leadership of Calenda, the Federation is a set of leadership and the federator has yet to be found (Mara Carfagna?).

Schlein, the color matching consultant and the fight over the Copasir

And Schlein? The dem secretary prefers not to comment. With the detail that in the same hours in which Borghi ponders his choice without notifying any of the leaders of the Democratic Party, he releases a photo shoot in Vogue in which he confides that he has entrusted himself to a personal shopper, or rather an armocromia consultant, for his look as secretary dem. After the shock, it was the group leader in the Senate, Francesco Boccia, who spoke during the assembly of the group: «I am embittered on a personal level and disappointed on a political level… I spoke to him and formally asked him to leave Copasir, because in a body like that one is not in a personal capacity but in representation of a party». But the malaise of the minority should not be underestimated, as Lorenzo Guerini warns, who as president of Copasir immediately points out in response to Boccia that «the committee remains correctly constituted» even if Borghi does not resign: «I respect Borghi’s choice but not I share. After that, one shouldn’t dramatize his outburst, but neither should he declassify it and resolve it with a shrug of the shoulders.’
