The national council of Forza Italia unanimously voted for the document which «entrusts Antonio Tajani and the collegiate monocratic executive bodies according to the respective competences provided for by the statute with the task of guiding the movement up to the national congress in a unitary spirit, in continuity with the ideas and principles of our founder».

The audience paid a long standing ovation to the founder Silvio Berlusconi, who passed away on 12 June. Among the delegates was not Marta Fascina, companion of the former prime minister, who remained in Arcore. In the audience, however, there are his loyalists with the right to vote, the deputies Stefano Benigni and Tullio Ferrante.

And the new secretary, who was not elected president, Tajani commented as follows: “President Berlusconi has certainly been our history but he is also the present and the future of Forza Italia…” he told the Fi National Council in Rome after the screening of a video homage to the Knight which traces the political life of the leader, starting with the speech of the descent into the field, “Italy is the country I love…”. And he added: «I believe that this political party can no longer have a president, which is why I plan to change the word president in the statute to the word “national secretary”. Because there is only one president» Tajani underlined as he opened the Forza Italia national council. The proposal was unanimously approved by the national council.

«We would like to applaud all morning, it is not easy to open this day but before the inauguration of the presidential office I wanted to tell you that yesterday evening I received a very affectionate and cordial letter of encouragement towards me from the Berlusconi family who begged me to read this message. So Tajani introducing the letter and pausing for a few seconds, probably out of emotion. Immediately afterwards he added: “The closeness of the family encourages us and shows us once again that FI was one of Berlusconi’s greatest achievements, as his daughter Marina always repeats”.

«Guarantors but not against the magistrates»
