Fi: ok from the national council to Tajani secretary until the congress

Antonio Tajani is the new “pro tempore” national secretary of Forza Italia. So he decided the National Council of the party which elected him unanimously. He will be the leader of FI until the next Congress is convened, which however should not be held before the next European ones in spring 2024. The vote took place by show of hands.
New national secretary
“It is no longer possible to have a president for our movement, which is why I propose to the Council to change the word “president” with the word “national secretary” in every article that provides for it, because for us there is only one president”. This is the proposal of the national coordinator of FI, Antonio Tajani, during the National Council of the party underway in Rome. Put to a vote by show of hands, the proposal was approved unanimously as reported by the group leader in the Senate, Licia Ronzulli.
Berlusconi’s loyalist
Tajani, Roman, 70 years old on 4 August, for years a journalist for “Il Giornale”, at the beginning of Berlusconi’s political career he was his spokesman, later also in Palazzo Chigi, but already in July 1994 he was elected in Strasbourg, they he will leave only in the phase of European commissioner, first for Transport (2008-2010), then for Industry (2010-2014) with a parenthesis of national politics with the candidacy for mayor of Rome in 2001, being beaten in the ballot by Walter Veltroni, still obtaining 47.8%. He was president of the European Parliament from 2017 to 2019.
FI coordinator
Before and during the electoral campaign of the 2018 political elections, he was considered and indicated several times by the leader of Forza Italia, Silvio Berlusconi, as a possible candidate for the presidency of the Council of Ministers. On the following 5 July, Berlusconi appointed him vice president of Forza Italia and on 15 February 2021, he was appointed by Berlusconi as sole national coordinator of Fi.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister
For the policies of 25 September 2022, he was a candidate for the Chamber in the single-member constituency of Velletri, for the centre-right coalition with a force share, and as leader in all four multi-nominal constituencies in Campania. Tajani will be elected in the single-member election with 49% of the vote, equal to 105,000 votes. Following the victory of the center-right and the subsequent task of forming a government entrusted to Giorgia Meloni, on 21 October 2022 he was indicated as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Vice President of the Council of Ministers, in Forza Italia share. With the oath on October 22, he officially takes office, together with the rest of the Meloni government.
