Fazzolari on Gentiloni: “There is an anomaly, he counterpoints the government. Italy is virtuous on the Pnrr”

“Today Italy is the most virtuous nation in the progress of the Pnrr, second only to Spain, which however has a much more reduced plan”. Giovanbattista Fazzolari, undersecretary of state, took stock of the implementation of the Recovery plan to the presidency of the Council of Ministers with responsibility for the implementation of the government program, always faithful right-hand man of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

In an interview with the Libero newspaper, Fazzolari spoke about these first nine months of Meloni government, focusing in particular on a highly topical issue such as the Pnrr. After the chaos related to the release of the third installment of the European plan, the government is trying to band together. So much so that he points the finger at Brussels: “We are living in a bizarre situation: the EU Commission has welcomed the Pnrr with great willingness, except now to dispute things relating to what has already been approved”, says Fazzolari. Who then decides to comment directly the attitude of Paolo Gentiloni, European commissioner for economic and monetary affairs. “If we had an Italian commissioner more attentive to national needs…”, says the undersecretary, who replies to more specific questions: “I detect an anomaly: that of a commissioner who he feels compelled to counter the Italian government every timewith statements that embarrass the nation and which I believe are beginning to surprise many in Brussels as well”.

Fazzolari then praises the merits of Minister for European Affairs Raffaele Fitto, responsible for negotiations with the European Commission, and underlines the unity of the government and the relations with Lega and Forza Italia are solidwith the ministers “all fully aware that losing this opportunity would also be a personal defeat as well as a political one”.
