Delmastro-Donzelli case, Nordio: “I asked for verification, but the prosecutor is investigating”

The statements of John Donzelli about Alfredo Cospito and his encounters with mafia bosses end up in the hands of Charles Nordio. Indeed, it is the Minister of Justice who should have dispelled any doubts about the origin of the information shared by Donzelli yesterday in the House Chamber, clarifying the possible role of Andrea Delmastro Delle Vedove, the Undersecretary of Justice who confirmed to La Repubblica and Fatto Quotidiano that he was Donzelli’s source. The occasion is the minister’s urgent briefing on the Cospito case which is being held this afternoon in the House and Senate.

Speaking to the Chamber, Nordio acknowledged that yesterday Donzelli “cited information pertaining to the special prison regime” and that “all the deeds relating to 41-bis are by their nature sensitive”, so “for the purposes of their disclosure it is necessary specific checks”. To understand what type of act it is, said the minister, “yesterday I asked the head of the cabinet to reconstruct what happened”. However, having learned from the newspapers “the investigation opened by the Rome prosecutor’s office for the crimes of disclosure and use of official secrecy”, the minister declined to make any other comment: “It is a new element of which, for the due respect for the work of the investigators, we cannot fail to take into account”.

The deputy of the Brothers of Italy, Donzelli, revealed yesterday in the Chamber of a meeting that Cospito had with Francesco Di Maio, of the Casalesi clan, on January 12, 2023. In doing so, he referred to some documents found in the Ministry of Justice, without specifying anything else. Of the meeting between the two, Donzelli also refers with precision to an exchange of words: “Piece by piece we will arrive at the result”, Di Maio would have said speaking of the abolition of the 41-bis, while Cospito replied: “It must be a struggle against 41-bis”.

The undersecretary had his say on the origin of this information Delmaster. “The newspapers have talked about the union between the mafia and terrorism, not me with confidential documents”, he explained to the microphones of Tagadà on La7. The Fdi exponent reiterated that “the documents cited by Donzelli were not classified”.
