Corruption for the exchange of seats in Brescia, MEP Fidanza and MEP Calovini from Fdi ask for a 1 year and 4 month bargain

The MEP of Fdi agreed with the Milan Public Prosecutor's Office for a plea bargain of one year and 4 months, suspended sentence and without disqualification from public offices Carlo Fidanza and the deputy of the same party Giangiacomo Calovini, who had ended up under investigation for corruption.
In particular, according to the investigations by prosecutors Giovanni Polizzi and Cristiana Roveda, theformer city councilor of Brescia Giovanni Acri, also of Fdiwould have left his office on June 25, 2021, causing the first of the unelected to take over the City Council, i.e. Calovini (later to become a deputy), close to the Fidanza political current. And in exchange, according to the indictment, he obtained the hiring of his son, Jacopo Acri, as assistant to MEP Fidanza. According to the indictment, Fidanza was the promoter of the alleged illicit agreement to be able to assign a position to Calovini, a member of the internal current of the party headed by the MEP.

Reclassified the accusation: "corruption for the exercise of the function"

The plea agreement, reported by Corriere della Sera online and confirmed by legal sources, provides for the requalification of the accusation from "corruption for an act contrary to official duties" to "corruption for the exercise of the function". And in addition to the conditional suspension of the sentence, it also provides for Calovini, defended by the lawyer Andrea Puccio, and for Fidanza, assisted by the lawyer Enrico Giarda, no application of accessory penalties, such as the disqualification from public offices, and therefore the possibility for them to continue to stay in Parliament.

Now the judge's decision is awaited

In any case, a investigating judge will have to express himself on the instances. At the moment for Acri and another suspect, Giuseppe Romele, former Lombard deputy coordinator of Fdi, no similar plea bargaining requests have been presented, as far as we know, after the closure of the investigations by the Milanese prosecutors which dates back to last January.
