Of Florence Radogna

We are moving towards the ok for the registration of the two newly promoted teams. The Lombard club was exonerated by a Pec sent within the set deadlines, the case of Reggina being more delicate. Now the applications for registration will be screened by Covisoc

The Lega di B assembly yesterday evening announced the forthcoming launch of an asymmetrical calendar and confirmed the firm will to maintain the 20-team format. Furthermore, it seems to have implicitly defined the orientation relating to the pending cases of Reggina and Lecco.
We would go towards the admission of both the Calabrian club, in economic difficulties and (it seems close to the sale), and the Lombard club
newly promoted from Lega Pro after 50 years. Association that would have had difficulties (later overcome by new evidence that emerged) in producing the correct documentation to designate the Euganeo stadium in Padua as a temporary venue in Serie B. In place of its own Rigamonti-Ceppi, under renovation.

These are the indications that emerged from yesterday evening’s press release, in which it is also announced that the 2023-’24 Series BKT calendar, presented in Como (Villa Olmo) on 11 July, will bring with it an unexpected novelty: «The asymmetrical calendar reads in the note – with the matches of the second round that will not be mirrored to those of the first leg. The assembly also ruled that it will not be played during national breaks and has confirmed the boxing day of December 26th, especially after the great success of this season which recorded the audience record and the fourth place in the ranking of the days with the most spectators. The winter break is scheduled from 27 December to 12 January, with the first day of return established on 13 January, with the midweek shifts also decided: Tuesday 29 August, Tuesday 26 September, Tuesday 26 December, Tuesday 27 February and Wednesday 1 May as well as Easter Monday, April 1, 2024. The start of the championship has already been approved in the last assembly with the starting on Saturday 19 August and ending on Friday 10 May 2024…».

It remains at 20 teams

The Assembly unanimously reaffirmed the need to protect the 20-team format, recalling how Lega B has been the protagonist of initiatives this season that have led to new, more restrictive regulations at the Federation at the time of registration under the banner of protection of the principle of fair competition”. A note that seems to leave no room for any possibilities from other companies — in particular the newly relegated Brescia and Perugia — to obtain a direct readmission in B. Even considering that the note does not mention any rejection of registration. As, however, in the hopes of the two clubs now in Lega Pro.

Now all twenty applications for registration will be examined by Covisoc which will draw up a report of compliance with the required requirements, by 30 June (next Friday). To be presented to the FIGC Federal Council, scheduled for Friday 7 July. In which the staff of the three professional series will be defined.

The cases of Lecco and Reggina

The position of Reggina remains delicate, to which particular attention will be paid.

As specifically requested also the certifications of the payment of the installments relating to the restructuring of the debt with the tax authorities (total of approximately 730 thousand euros). On the other hand, the position of the Calcio Lecco 1912 club, on the temporary stadium issue (of Padua), would seem to be more positively defined. Because: it is true that the necessary clearance from the Prefect of the Veneto capital arrived late, moreover justified by the issuing authority itself; but – from rumors – it seems that the regular Pec of extension request by the Larians was also found in the Lega terminals, dated and issued in one of the days preceding the deadline for delivery. Therefore acceptable, in terms of regulation, for registration.

Not only that: in the intricate bureaucratic affair that could also have cost the double relegation among the amateurs – Lecco has not submitted an application to join the Lega Pro – the certification by the same Serie B league of the Lecco plant is also lacking as non-standard. On the day of the visit, the chief consultant of the Infrastructure Commission of the League, the former referee Carlo Longhi, was absent due to illness, the only one authorized to sign the document. Hence the need to repeat the process, including the designation of the alternative stage (with related documentation). Lastly, the (too stringent) deadlines to which he was forced to produce the registration documentation also weighed significantly on the matter of the registration of the newly promoted: postponed the playoffs by ten days, the club was promoted on the field, just two days before the deadline.

Brescia and Perugia ready to appeal

All circumstances that seem to have created around the young representative of the bluceleste club – the rookie president Paolo Cristian Di Nunno (son of the patron) – a climate of collaboration and acceptance by the representatives of the other clubs in the League. Connect by video conference. Moreover, the relegated on the field Brescia and Perugiawhich had already started procedures for accessing the registration documents of Reggina and Lecco, now they are preparing to appeal. A few minutes before the end of the meeting, the aggressive official note from the Umbrians: «The regulations are in place and, given that this club has always respected them, we are convinced that we will be protected by the FIGC and by Lega B to be readmitted because in our opinion, Reggina and Lecco are not entitled to membership». Waiting for a position taken by the president of Brescia, Massimo Cellino, we can already predict a long hot summer.
