Negotiations will start in Abi on 19 July for the renewal of the national collective labor agreement for the 280,000 bankers. After the workers’ assemblies gave the union platform the go-ahead with 99.5% yes, the document will be officially presented to the bankers next week. The goal is to get the negotiations started quickly so as to be able to reach a synthesis within this year.

Certainly the next stage will be a further freeze on the terms of the old contract, which expired at the end of 2022. The unions are asking for an increase of 435 euros for the average reference level (3A4L) on which they have already received a substantial freedom from Carlo Messina, CEO and managing director of Intesa Sanpaolo, who participates in the negotiations with the formula of the permanent invitation after the revocation of the mandate to represent the contract to ABI. In the last meeting of the Italian Banking Association, the president Antonio Patuelli recognized the need to modernize the contract and to recognize the recovery of purchasing power for workers.

The secretary general of Fabi Lando Maria Sileoni explains that «an economic request was presented with an average monthly increase of 435 euros, to be distributed over three years and we will go all the way because the banks have made, in 2022 alone, as many as 25 billions of euros in profits and then why we have to catch up on inflation. Wages have gone back 25 years, I’m referring to the loss of purchasing power. Today we find ourselves with almost 7 million workers and workers who have their national contract expired, in some cases even for over 5 years. One of these categories is that of journalists.
