Arnaldo Forlani, former DC secretary and prime minister has died – Corriere.it

died, at the age of 97, in his home in Rome, the former Prime Minister and DC secretary Arnaldo Forlani. The political leader, during a career spanning from the post-war period to the 1990s been head of government between October 1980 and June 1981 e secretary of the Crusader Shield between 89 and ’92. he has held other government posts including minister of foreign affairs, defence, state holdings.

In 1992 it had been also running for the office of president of the republic but a group of snipers prevented his election. At that point Forlani had withdrawn his candidacy. Oscar Luigi Scalfaro was elected in his place.

With its political sunset, the political season of the DC as the pivot of the entire national policy. Together with Bettino Craxi and Giulio Andreotti (with whom he set up a political axis then called CA.F.) was among the last protagonists of the First Republic, then overwhelmed by the Tangentopoli scandal. Just under the guidance of Forlani the DC in the early 80s ceased collaboration with the PCI gained during the national solidarity governments of the previous decade, preferring to cultivate the alliance with the socialists.
