A grip on absences. The government is moving: the Minister of Relations with Parliament, Luca Ciriani, has sent what is formally more than an appeal to all ministers and undersecretaries to underline how fundamental it is “an assiduous, punctual and qualified participation” in the work of ‘Classroom and the Commissions and the announcement that from now on a report will be drawn up on the presences, absences and activities of the exponents linked to the executive.

The letter to the other members of the executive – viewed by Corriere – was agreed with the Prime Minister and anticipated by a communication from the head of Ciriani’s cabinet, Massimiliano Lucà. An “invitation” that comes after some unforeseen events that cost the government slip-ups, as happened in April on the budget variance. These are rules that Ciriani defines as binding to avoid situations that could embarrass the majority. The head of the cabinet had already anticipated the contents of the letter, first of all the need to provide the most complete weekly overview possible on the presence of government representatives in the commissions and in the parliamentary halls in relation to the discussion of the provisions, of the guidelines and of inspection union of respective competence.

Giorgia Meloni will instead have a monthly report on activities. In the letter, the minister also touches on the question of the amendments presented by his colleagues, urging them to respect the deadlines, in order to allow the executive to make the appropriate assessments and to check their admissibility in the right timescales. The amendments presented through parliament will also have to pass through Ciriani. A bottleneck imposed and communicated by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during a Council of Ministers, precisely to give a political scrutiny to the initiatives and avoid misunderstandings about the political importance to be attributed to them.
