“Types of the right: lovers of traditions, good food, a glass of Italian wine, decorum, order and security. Types of the left: worshipers of insect flours, defilers of monuments, fans of free drugs and illegal occupations. Here is because I’m a right-wing girl!” The deputy of Fratelli d’Italia, Alessia Ambrosiwith a tweet he returns to the fray on one of the most discussed topics of the last few weeks: insect flours and their presence on our tables. In Reggio Emilia, for example, in a café you can eat a croissant prepared with cricket flour together with a cappuccino.

The Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida issued four decrees in this regard. The squeeze concerns regulating product labeling and managing sales through ad hoc shelves. “No brakes, just information and transparency. Nobody will eat insects without their knowledge, there will be precise labels. For me, any natural food is fine, but people must be in a position to choose. I’m not afraid of cricket flour, I see no competition, while it is clear that synthetic meat risks eliminating entire supply chains”, explained Lollobrigida yesterday.

The go-ahead for cricket powder as a food came three months ago, on 4 January, from the European Union. He authorized it by allowing the placing on the market of what in scientific jargon is called Acheta domesticus, i.e. the house cricket, in partially defatted powder as a new food.

Now the tweet of the FdI deputy, who by attacking the food, makes a distinction between “types of the left” and types of the right”. Users on social media went wild including Elio Vito, a former Forza Italia parliamentarian: “And above all without stereotypes and clichés!”. And still others: “You forgot that children eat”, “So many trivialities, I’m a leftist but I’ve never used drugs, I love Italian cuisine and I don’t smear monuments. On the other hand, I know right-wing people who don’t get along at all with order and security. And so what? Is her tweet just #propaganda?” asked another user commenting on Ambrosi’s post.
