Alliance between Nordmeccanica and Fujifilm to create recyclable packaging

An agreement and a six-handed project, because «in an increasingly complex world, there is not a single company that has all the skills to offer the market the most effective and sustainable solution, but it is necessary to bring together various partners, each a leader in its own specialization», explains Vincenzo Cerciello, vice president and technical director of Nordmeccanica, recounting the underlying reasons that led to the strategic partnership with Fujifilm.

The multinational specialized in industrial printing and the Piacenza-based packaging company have signed an agreement to build the first printing machine that will make it possible to produce totally recyclable and zero-emission plastic films for food packaging.

Fujifilm has given birth to a new digital inkjet press, which will produce two-layer ecological polypropylene packaging, which will then be laminated in Piacenza with Nordmeccanica machines, using solvent-free adhesives produced by the German chemical group Henkel , the third actor involved in this project which, in fact, creates a complete and sustainable cycle in the production of packaging, thus meeting the need of a constantly evolving market.

«Our customers, all over the world, ask us for sustainable products and furthermore the European Union is imposing ever more stringent rules from an environmental point of view – observes Cerciello -. The packaging sector is going through one of the greatest revolutions in its history and we must be able to adapt to this change, not chasing the market but anticipating it and indeed guiding it towards sustainable choices». Hence the strategic importance of agreements and projects like this, which bring together different skills to provide customers with complete solutions.

It is not the first case for Nordmeccanica, explains Cerciello, which already collaborates with various industrial partners, but also with research institutions and universities, such as the University of Parma, to develop increasingly advanced solutions from a technological point of view.
