But the plan is always the same: Apulian aqueduct outlined the objectives up to 2026, reaffirming the commitment to increase the workforce: Strengthen skills, through training and “reskilling” and the launch of a recruitment plan of around 635 people, of which 227 new employees who will enter already by the end of this year.
The objectives
The three priorities – written in a statement – that will guide the strategic plan: protection of the water resource with the aim of recovering 44 million cubic meters of water; implementation of a circular economy system with in-house management of 130 thousand tons of sludge; acceleration of the energy transition, reaching the production of over 90 GWH of energy from self-produced renewable sources in 2026. For the implementation of the business plan, the current management plans to make investments of over 2 billion, the majority of which (over 85%) it will be dedicated to the quality of service to customers and the mitigation of the environmental impact through the reduction of losses and the achievement of new technological frontiers in the field of the purification system.
Network enhancement
The Sinni aqueduct will be strengthened and the implementation of projects is envisaged which will make it possible to find new sources of supply such as the start-up of the desalination plant from the brackish source of the Tara river, in the province of Taranto. The strategic plan targets 4 years and has a series of commitments, made today in order to be verified at the end of 2026, initiating – explains Domenico Laforgia, president of Aqp – a whole series of actions that are in the perspective of sustainability: respect for the environment, reduction of environmental impacts and energy exposure with self-production of electricity, in addition to the decrease in network losses. On this latter aspect, we have set ourselves the goal of reducing them by 20% in 4 years, saving money 55 million cubic meters of water.
