Meloni’s party is embarrassed by the FdI senator’s bill Robert Menia which, tracing a similar proposal by the forzista Maurice Gasparri, asks to recognize the rights of the conceived. The controversy raised by the opposition over the fear that the legislative texts on the subject are a vehicle for limiting the right to abortion has caused distancing. Menia proposes to amend article 1 of the Civil Code, according to which legal capacity is recognized at the moment of birth, extending its recognition from the moment of conception. The bill, filed in the Senate, brings theArch to denounce: “We are once again attacking the right to abortion and the freedom of self-determination of every woman. Four months after the establishment of the Meloni government – recalls the association – there are two measures signed by members of the majority and various attempts to questioning the law on voluntary termination of pregnancy: a record for those who declared in the electoral campaign that they did not want to touch the 194”. Under the magnifying glass a passage of the text of the senator of the Right, according to which the objective is “to recognize, also in the juridical field, that embryo, fetus, newborn, child, boy, adolescent, young person, adult, elderly person, old person are different names which indicate an identical reality, an identical subject, the same personal being, the same man”.

But the alarm, Menia argues, is unjustified: “The oppositions would do well to read the text before speaking, otherwise they risk saying things in vain. Thank God there is no single thought. If they want to deprive a member of parliament of the right to express their thoughts, let them say so“, defends the Melonian. For the oppositions, Pd in ​​primis, his bill attacks the freedom of women: “No one attacks anything. I don’t understand this growling protest… What they forget is that the first part of law 194 is not applied, which tries to save the life of the unborn child”. For Menia “there is the right of the weakest, there is no right to sanction death . In this strange world – remarked the senator of FdI – I see the right to euthanasia, the right to die. There is a principle to defend which is the right to life”. And Eugenia Roccella’s braking? “It’s fine, say what you want. Do they want to take away my right to think and say what I want?” Menia retorts.

The issue is highly sensitive, Meloni’s party does not want to lend its side. And so, within a few hours, the second disavowal of the FdI senator arrives: “His is a personal initiative, it will not have any follow-up”, they say. But the text remains deposited in the Senate, together with that of Gasparri.
