The cabinet approved the reform presented by the Keeper of the Seals Charles Nordio which, among other things, clears the crime of abuse of office and places limits on the prosecutor’s power of appeal.

“I have heard inaccuracies about the vacuum of protection that would be created with the abolition of abuse of office which does not exist at all, our arsenal is the most aggressive in Europe”, commented Justice Minister Nordio at the press conference at the end of the CDM.

In recent days the minister had spoken of “more guarantees for those under investigation”thanks to the reform.

«Reforms cannot be improvised in two days or two weeks, this reform is the the result of six months of work by an extremely trained staff. The reform had already been scheduled, fate wanted it to coincide with this mournful event, the regret is that Berlusconi will not be able to see it », he added. «I hope that the approval of the reform takes place as soon as possible. I hope that the opposition is made in rational terms and not emotional. Parliament must be willing to listen. My hope is that it argues with the reasons of the brain.

In the reform approved by the CDM there is no “gag for the press”, Nordio then assured at the press conference. With the interception system, levels of “almost barbarism” have been reachedhas explained.
