22,000 euros per migrant? For Italy it is an excellent proposal, but for our allies (Poland and the Czech Republic) “we don’t talk about it” – Corriere.it

MOLDOVA – The EU would like to compensate the States that take on the problem the most with 22,000 euros per migrant. The figure is confidential, which emerged during the negotiations between European ambassadors in recent weeks, would oblige the countries that do not accept a reallocation of illegal immigrants on their territories to pay compensation to the port State. Let’s say that tot migrants arrive in Sicily or Calabria and Italy has the right to transfer a share of them, for example to Poland, if Warsaw refuses then it would have to turn over goods, aid or cash to our country for precisely twenty-two thousand euros to a non-EU citizen who entered the EU without permission. It is one of the details of the negotiations currently taking place in Brussels on the new Pact on migrants and asylum and that in many of its aspects the Italian government would like very much.

It is a pity that as soon as the dossier drawn up by the Commission and the Swedish presidency arrived on the table, precisely the states that are nicknamed as belonging to the so-called Visegrad groupfrom Poland to Hungary to the Czech Republic, in theory all close allies of Giorgia Meloni, have strongly opposed. It is perhaps the demonstration of how difficult it is to achieve a balance in terms of migrants
which will be discussed again at the European Council at the end of the month in Brussels, but it is certainly a paradox that countries considered friends by our diplomacy, because they are conservative or sovereignist, are the fiercest opponents of a measure that Rome strongly supports, together with other great founding states of the EU and which would have its pivot in the principle of solidarity.

The implications of some phases of the current negotiations were revealed today by Politic. The Polish Interior Minister reacted to the hypothesis by simply saying that for the country “there is no mention of him, today and in the future”. And the prime ministers of Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary say the same thing. The first two countries were recently visited by Giorgia Meloni. With Rome, on the subject of migrants, they said completely agree.
