Work, the government aims to increase the tax discount: cut from 100 euros per month

ROME. The cumulative cut in the tax wedge that the government will propose to the unions tonight could reach up to 100 euros gross per month. Compared to previous indications, in fact, according to advances from Il Sole 24 Ore, the government with the decree that will be approved tomorrow morning would be willing to increase the amount of the discount on payroll and to concentrate it on a shorter period of time. Instead of starting this month, the new intervention would in fact start two months later, in July, and stop a month earlier (at the end of November). Five months in all instead of 8 (May-December).

In the last month of the year, we would return to the more modest values set by the Budget law counting on the fact that the thirteenth month salary in any case corroborates the salary that is received. In this way, instead of adding the cut of 1-2 points as announced at first – ensuring an average net income of 15 euros per month, according to Bank of Italy estimates – the discount would rise to 3-4 points in order to ensure everyone workers who earn less than 35,000 euros gross a year an overall cut of 6-7 percentage points: 7 points up to 25,000 euros and 6 above this value.
Today, in fact, on the basis of the latest budget law, a discount of three points was envisaged up to 25,000 euros gross/year, which dropped to 2 points in the range between 25,000 and 35,000 euros gross. Translated into euros, it ranged from an extra gross 19.15 euros per month for incomes of up to 10,000 euros (231 in a year) to 32.92/395 euros with 20,000 euros, then rising to 41/493 with 25,000 euros. EUR. While above this threshold with the 2% cut, the advantage is reduced to 32.9/395 euros with 30 thousand euros, which then becomes 32.92/394 with 35 thousand euros gross.

With the new decree arriving up to 25 thousand, as mentioned, the cut rises from 3 to 7 points, while above this threshold a discount of 3 would go from one to one of six points. In this way the monthly gross would increase by 44.9 euros for those who earn up to 10 thousand euros, which rise to 76.82 with 20 thousand, 96.03 to 25 thousand, above this threshold one travels around 91 euros to arrive at share of 98.56 euros for those who earn 35,000 euros gross per year.
This measure, together with the others that will be included in the work package, will be financed with the 3.4 billion of the budget deviation just approved by Parliament after last Thursday’s accident. If we want to repeat the measure also in 2024, according to initial estimates, the government will have to raise around 12-13 billion euros. Alternatively, we will return to the old rates and wages even more miserable.
