There are those who think that the director of the Revenue Agency, Ernesto Maria Ruffini, would never have responded in kind to the Minister of Transport, Matteo Salvini, on the subject of “fiscal peace” without consulting each other or, at least, without first receiving the consent of his ministry of reference, i.e. the Mef. Ruffini recalled the results obtained with the fight against tax evasion which in 2022 allowed the Italian state to recover 20 billion, but above all he defended the role of the institution he represents with clear words: “The fight against tax evasion is not the will to persecute someone,” he said. It is not difficult to imagine an asymmetry of views between Salvini and the Minister of Economy, Giancarlo Giorgettidespite being from the same government and the same party. And one could point out the inappropriateness for a Minister of Transport to touch the strings of a delicate issue such as the tax one between the inauguration of one railway line and another.
