This time it was a 200 employees, about 10% of the total, which includes product managers, data scientists and computer engineers who worked to improve the functioning of the platform and its reliability. Since acquiring the company for $44 billion in October 2022, Elon Musk has introduced a series of radical changes to reduce costs, which have also led to the reduction of the workforce by about 3,700 people. The number of current employees, therefore, dropped to 2,000.

Interrupted internal communications

According to what was revealed by some internal sources, during the week preceding the layoffs, the company began to make communication between employees increasingly complicated: Slack, the messaging platform that is used in the Twitter offices to transmit information and internal data, it has been taken offline and some e-mail accounts have been deactivated. Among the personnel who have left the company are many workers who are part of the team responsible for managing and maintaining the monetization infrastructure, which are all those services from which Twitter makes its main income. From a total of 30 people, only eight remained.

Esther Crawford was also fired

It seems that Esther Crawford, the loyal employee of Elon Musk who became known on the web for being immortalized while sleeping in the office, has also returned to this latest round of layoffs. Crawford joined the company after starting a small technology company called Squad, which allows making video calls and screen sharing, which Twitter acquired.
