To the surprise of most, Georgia Tripoli, 40 years old, lawyer in Udine, candidate for president in the regional elections in Friuli-Venezia Giulia with the civic list Together free, she finished third behind the center-right and center-left, but ahead of the third pole. Tripoli obtained 4.7% but the list did not, just below the 4% necessary, so that she (who will not sit on the council) will ask for a recount. Together free collects no vax, no green pass, doctors suspended for lack of vaccinations, orange vests. “It’s not a jumble of movements but free citizens against globalism and globalization,” she explained during the electoral campaign.

Did you expect this result?

“I had no expectations. If you calculated all those who potentially could have voted for us, the numbers were high, but it was theory. I didn’t want to believe it. In Friuli-Venezia Giulia there are many no vaxes, but it’s a fact.”

What led you to become the standard-bearer of these movements?

«The work in the Ali association (Italian free lawyers) which, among other things, fought against the government decisions on the pandemic and on the obligation of vaccinations; the collaboration in Rome with its president Angelo Di Lorenzo, which however has nothing to do with Together free; the general inattention to citizens’ problems; and then the disappointment for what has been done here in Friuli-Venezia Giulia by the regional council led by Massimiliano Fedriga».

She voted Lega.

«Yes, but I never took part in it. It was sad to see what the Northern League did on certain fronts or didn’t do on others. Now they talk about Pnrr, about big issues, but without caring about what citizens really need. Fedriga is the one who asked special laws against the unvaccinated against Covid. The League looks to the big lobbies, it’s part of the system. He doesn’t ask people how they live. They are detached from reality.”

Are you free together instead?

“We will pay the utmost attention, making the protests of the people I meet at the supermarket our own”.

But there are currently no elected councilors.

“Yeah, but I’ll ask for a recount. We result at 3.97%. There are polling station presidents who, however, have canceled too many ballots due to wrong preferences, confusion about the crosses to put on. The difference between what I took and what the list is is strange: 7,200 votes. At the moment, we do not enter the council by 90 votes. If the two councilors Marco Bertali and Ugo Rossi, former councilor in the Municipality of Trieste, make it, we’ll be in touch. For example, the steel plant they want to build in the Marano Lagoon in the province of Udine, which devastates the entire ecosystem with investments of 1 billion, we would have fought it».

The future of the list?

“We will structure ourselves like a real party, with membership, offices, governing bodies. Expressions of interest are arriving from all regions of Italy to expand the Friulian experience. We want to put the human at the centre».
