Penultimate day at Ski World Cup, in Savoy. After the Courchevel men’s giant we return to Méribel for the women’s slalom. It could be, indeed it should, given the indications of the season, the day of the world championship encore of Mikaela Shiffrin, already queen of the wide doors in front of our Federica Brignone. The theme of the race, in fact, is: who will ever be able to stop an athlete who between the rapid gates she has been dominant and has taken five of eleven victories so far in the World Cup year? The answer can come from noting down who defeated Wonder Woman. And on closer inspection they are not even few: in Killington (USA) Switzerland was taxed ex aequo holdener and the Swedish Larsson; in Sestriere Holdener had repeated itself (with Mikaela second); in Flachau the Slovak Vhlova (here too the American comes second); finally in race-2 at Spindleruv Mlyn the German Duerr had triumphed, who had prevented Shiffrin – again in the place of honor – from equaling the absolute record of first places (86) of Ingemar Stenmark.

Finally, it shouldn’t be forgotten that in the slalom heat of the combined event of this World Championship, Edwards’ girl (Colorado) had climbed a few posts from the finish line, compromising a gold medal that was about to steal from Brignone. That injury, however, will probably remain a rarity: Mikaela is unlikely to make serial mistakes. So, look forward to her as the clear favourite.

In a specialty that has been “flat” for us for many years are the faces of a future that the last race held in the World Cup outlined with encouraging colors: in the Czech Republic all four finished in the points. From the girls of tomorrow, one cannot expect a bright present: it is enough that they know how to offer, in a World Cup which is also their debut for Sola and Rossetti, dignified performances.
