Inflation still high, the decline in rates is receding

It takes time to fully see the effects of monetary policy, and that time is almost here: the tightening started last summer on rates and bond purchases will reach its maximum impact on GDP already this year, while on inflation it will come ‘next year. The estimate, based on an analysis by the European Central Bank itself, seems to distance the prospect of an imminent drop in interest rates and therefore in mortgages: according to the analysts consulted by Bloombergthe first drop should arrive in the second quarter of 2024 and no longer in the first, as previously estimated, precisely because of the persistence of inflation (here the latest data in Italy).
