From supply chain contracts to a new variety of wheat. On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the supply chain agreement wanted by Granoro in 2012, which today involves over 340 Apulian farms and produces 20 thousand tons of pasta with 100% Puglia wheat, the Apulian agri-food company has decided to establish and register in the national register a new variety of durum wheat which will be called “Don Attilio” in homage to Attilio Mastromauro, founder of the Granoro pasta factory who, together with his wife Chiara, gave life, in 1967, to what is today one of the most important Italian production realities in the pasta sector. The “Don Attilio” variety – for which Granoro has announced that it has signed an agreement with Crea Ci of Foggia – will be a medium-early variety, of medium size, suitable for the typical environments of Apulian cereal-growing and with excellent qualitative performances. The development and dissemination will take place starting from the 2023/2024 grain campaign and will involve the farms participating in the project.

A project – that of the supply chain which has made it possible to deliver to the market about 12 thousand tons of “Granoro Dedicato” pasta produced with 100% Puglia wheat – which has intercepted the requests for sustainable agronomic policies, catching the new sensitivity for these issues. We are aware that we are living in a war economy,” explains Marina Mastromauro, CEO of Granoro. – The effects of the first pandemic and the war between Ukraine and Russia last February 2022 have interrupted many supply chains, from packaging materials to energy, but we believe that it is essential to give even more support to the territory precisely in the most difficult economic contexts , strength for development and for our quality productions through agreements with farmers. Granoro’s goal, which has become a reality with Dedicato, was to produce pasta that had characteristics that cannot be reproduced in other areas of Italy and the world, and to bring Puglia and Italy to the world. It is with this in mind that Granoro has also invested in the production of tomatoes and DOP extra virgin olive oil and legumes.
