Vodafone, Margherita Della Valle has been appointed new CEO of the Corriere.it global group

Margherita Della Valle, who had assumed the leadership of the Vodafone group ad interim following the exit of Nick Read, was appointed group chief executive worldwide. The board and I were impressed with his pace and from his resoluteness in starting the necessary transformation of Vodafone – commented the president Jean-Franois van Boxmeer -. Margherita has my full support and my advice for her plans for Vodafone to provide a better customer experience, become a simpler company and accelerate growth.

The nomination

In December 2022, the firm announced the departure of Nick Read as Group Chief Executive Officer and Margherita Della Valle was appointed to fill the role on an interim basis, while also retaining her previous role as Chief Financial Officer, pending the Board’s indication a new group chief execute. After almost five months, the company confirms its decision. For Vodafone to realize its potential, it has to change, Della Valle said. The group has one unique position in Europe and Africa with strong relationships with customers, networks and people. We know we can do better. My goal will be to improve service for our customers, simplify our business and grow. Also following her appointment, Margherita Della Valle will continue to work as group chief financial officer until an external search for a new Chief Financial Officer is completed.

The carreer

Margherita Della Valle, born in Rome in 1965, graduated from Des (Economic and Social Disciplines) of Bocconi University in 1988. Until 2018 she was deputy chief financial officer at group level and CFO for Vodafone Italia from 2004 to 2007. Already in 1994, Della Valle joined Omnitel Pronto Italia in various roles, before the acquisition by Vodafone in 2000. In July 2020, Della Valle been nominated non-executive director of Reckitt Benckiser Group plc. During his long career, Della Valle – who was recently named Alumna of the year for 2022 at Milan’s Bocconi university – has worked with both Aldo Bisio and Vittorio Colao, former number one at the telecommunications giant and more recently Minister of Draghi government.
