Ukraine, the majority is working on a joint motion: towards the extension of aid and the shipment of arms for the whole of 2023

The centre-right coalition is working on a joint motion on Ukraine to be presented tomorrow (Tuesday 29 November) in the Chamber of the Chamber. As parliamentary sources of the majority report, the amendment should confirm Italy’s commitment to support Ukraine for the whole of 2023. The orientation, therefore, is to propose an extension of a few months, probably also for the whole of the next year, to help Kiev by granting all useful tools – even armaments – to fight against the invasion. The unitary text, signed by Fdi, Lega and Fi, will be opposed to the three motions of the opposition, the first signed by
5Stelle, the second from the Left Green Alliance and the third from Azione-Italia Viva.

In fact, in the motion of the majority, the government undertakes – reads the text – “to support the regulatory initiatives necessary to extend until 31 December 2023 the authorization, subject to the addressing act of the Chambers, for the transfer of vehicles, materials and equipment military to the government authorities of Ukraine in the terms and in the manner established by article 2-bis of the decree-law of 25 February 2022, n. 14”. The Chamber “undertakes the Government to illustrate beforehand to the parliamentary halls the political direction to be taken on the occasion of international meetings concerning the Russia-Ukraine conflict, including that concerning the possible sending of military supplies, in order to take into account the addresses formulated by them”, reads the first point of the November 16 draft of the motion of the 5 Star Movement on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine on the eve of the exam scheduled for tomorrow in the Chamber.

FdI motion: recognize Holodomor as Ukrainian genocide

Brothers of Italy will present a motion to ask for the official recognition of theHolodomor as Ukrainian genocide, as announced by the party recalling how with the term ‘Holodomor‘ indicate “the extermination by starvation of the Ukrainian people, conceived in 1932 and carried out by the Soviet communist regime of Stalin in the period from January to June 1933, which caused about four million victims and destroyed a significant part of the population. According to the estimates, a total of a quarter of Ukraine’s rural population, men, women and children were exterminated”. The conference explaining the provision will be held tomorrow at 4 pm in the press room of the Chamber of Deputies. Expected – in addition to the group leader of Fratelli d’Italia in the Chamber, Thomas Foti and to the honorable Galeazzo BignamiDeputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport – Yaroslav MelnykAmbassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Italian Republic, Senator Julius Terzipresident of the fourth Standing Commission of the Senate for European Union Policies and the deputy Giangiacomo Calovinileader of the Brothers of Italy in the third Commission for Foreign and Community Affairs in the Chamber.

“Brothers of Italy with this motion asks that the massacre of communist origin be recognized as genocide. And we hope that all the political forces, in agreement with Parliament, will join our initiative”, declared Foti.
