UEFA’s announcement: “Players and fans in governing football” – Sport

Players and fans, with their representatives, enter the governance of European football. This is the novelty introduced by UEFA, which in its Executive Committee has decided to include both players through their union in the permanent committees of the organization (Fifpro Europe) and fans through their association (Football Supporters Europe). The two bodies will therefore participate in the decisions of theUefaalongside members of national federations, leagues and clubs. Among the new ways of confrontation are the specific bilateral platforms for the interested parties, which will have to increase the opportunities for dialogue and understanding. The advisory committees will complement the annual UEFA convention on the future of European football and create exclusive communication channels to work directly with UEFA. According to the UEFA president, Aleksander Ceferin, “these are concrete measures, based on the ideas discussed collectively with our members and stakeholders, leagues, clubs, players and fans, to promote a more inclusive, robust and transparent governance for European football. The aim is to work side by side with all those who care about sport and its open system, based on meritocracy and solidarity”.
