The government has decided to withdraw the amendment from the Milleproroghe. Casini (Lega di A): “We are surprised, a measure that does not cost, is not automatic and was formulated by the government itself”. The other open front is the fight against piracy

The League of A raises its voice and puts pressure on the government. Driven by a desire to show support for Claudio Lotito, first signatory of the amendment to the Milleproroghe Decree to obtain an extension of up to two years of the current TV rights contracts, he specifies his position in a note. «The hypothesis of a maximum two-year extension of the existing contracts with Dazn and Sky for audiovisual rights 2021-2024, represents a very useful option which, in a non-automatic and non-binding way, is strategically functional to the effort that the Lega, with all its associates, is carrying out to guarantee the best and most efficient valorisation of For years to come.”

The executive’s decision to withdraw the amendment from the Milleproroghe obviously created annoyance in via Rosellini. “We are surprised. It is a measure which, as the assembly recalled today, has no burden on the public finances and is very useful for what the new tender will be. We are surprised by this change of direction because the amendment was by the majority – said the president of the Lega di A Lorenzo Casini -. We are curious to understand what happened. It does not cost, it is not automatic, it was formulated by the government ».

The other front on which the clubs have moved together to ask for legislative intervention in politics is the piracy. «The companies have unanimously supported the need to ask the Government and Parliament once again for urgent action to definitively resolve the phenomenon of audiovisual piracy which represents the biggest problem in football, causing an estimated loss of around two billion a year to all economic sectors of the country. The note specifies that «the fight against piracy is the priority for recovering resources today illegally stolen from the entire football and sport system. Also for this reason, most recently in December with the reform document issued by the Assembly and sent to the government, the League of A represented the absolute urgency to intervene. The League therefore requests that there be immediate action, hopefully also in the decree-law being approved today”.

President Casini explained: «We know that there are legal initiatives but in Italy it takes 333 days to have a law. Football, sport and the country cannot wait a year”. After all, as mentioned in the press release, the proceeds and tax revenues from the football industry support all of Italian sport.
